June 8 2025 The North Platte 80s defeated the Kansas City Hormigas 3-1 behind a three-run third inning and a strong pitching performance. North Platte finished with four hits and no errors, while Kansas City managed three hits and also played errorless baseball.
North Platte broke through in the third inning and held the lead the rest of the way. Kansas City answered with one run in the sixth, but the 80s preserved the advantage. Jake Boucher and Caleb Copeland each hit a home run for North Platte. Boucher went 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a walk, while Copeland was 1-for-2 with a run, an RBI and a walk. Coby Tweten also collected a hit, and Pierce Salbego contributed a hit and scored a run.
Salbego earned the win after allowing one run on three hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out 10. John Luegering and Cade Herrmann each worked a scoreless inning before Corey Steward closed out the victory with a scoreless ninth and one strikeout for the save. Kansas City starter Jacob Strobel took the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits in 4.2 innings.
